Rather than writing a single year-in-review, Reader, I’m taking a closer look at how this year unfolds in real time.
January is the calendar’s starting point, but more importantly, it’s where early decisions begin to show what they actually require.
Before the start of 2026, it was clear that this year would be shaped by and paying attention to the shifts. Every conversation prior to the start of the year strayed towards a discussion about shifts, and I was noticing the same in my own business and its data.
This series is my way of tracking those shifts as they happen and responding accordingly.
I chose a monthly review format because year-in-reviews, while useful and helpful, usually arrive after the window for meaningful correction has passed. By then, patterns are obvious but already fixed. Month by month, they’re still adjustable.
Looking at a business month by month makes patterns harder to ignore and easier to correct, especially under real constraints.
This is a brief review of what mattered, what shifted, and what stayed steady for me this month, based on decisions already in motion, the signals they reinforced, and the adjustments it required.
1. The Overall
What kind of month this was at a strategic level in one sentence.
January clarified the mission and forced my plans to become incredibly more specific.
2. The Reality
What actually moved and what didn’t in the business.
I found the messaging around my business and what I do did not itself need a major shift, but how I support clients in getting results did. The focus moved away from redefining what I do and toward simplifying how outcomes are delivered while explaining it plainly and with ease.
Decisions made and tested since October began to show their shape, bringing more refinement and sophistication to how my business runs day to day.
The work I accomplished this month clarified where my attention is essential, what support can be delegated, and how AI fits into execution without replacing judgment.
Relationship-building and visibility work continued to move forward to prepare for larger opportunities.
3. The Numbers
The metrics I paid attention to this month.
- Visibility investment: One major investment made, oriented toward increasing reach and exposure.
- Email list: 48 people surfaced through email activity.
- Tools added: 2 (both focused on streamlining execution towards visibility).
- Capacity: First full week back after being sick/holidays exceeded 60 hours; subsequent weeks leveled out to the more manageable 30-40.
- Planning horizon: Major purchases mapped out for the next 3 months.
4. The Removals
What was stopped in the business and progress.
I focused on what my intuition and thoughts told me versus allowing more input than necessary from others in my decision-making process, even when those relationships were supportive and well-intentioned. My alignment towards goals and needs mattered more than proximity.
I stopped treating every idea, purchase, or support decision as something that required more deliberation. The answers were already clear. I knew the answer before I had asked.
I removed Pinterest and significantly deprioritized SEO efforts that didn’t match my actual capacity or goals this year, including reducing blog output accordingly.
I stopped consuming broad “guru” guidance and returned authority to my own judgment.
5. The Additions
What I intentionally reinforced or introduced to the business.
I prioritized visibility as a primary focus, seeking out mostly speaking and podcasts as the primary distribution channel, so that live, or at least voice, was emphasized versus over more passive channels.
I adopted building in public as a deliberate visibility strategy, not as experimentation, but as a way to extend my work already in motion.
I added a stricter execution rule: systems should initiate themselves wherever possible, rather than relying on my memory or manual prompts.
I deepened my use of agentic AI to support execution through SOPs and background triggers, with clear human-in-the-loop guardrails to ensure judgment remains mine.
I began laying groundwork for more structured voice-of-customer and market research to inform future visibility and messaging decisions.
6. The Adjustments
What this month clarified or confirmed.
January clarified that the business is carrying too much cognitive load for me. As the work deepens, it now requires more specialized support rather than continued self-initiation and research.
January confirmed a necessary tradeoff: execution can no longer rely primarily on my own memory and mental bandwidth. Deeper agentic AI processes are required to support the level of experimentation and sophistication already in motion, while strong human interaction and guardrails can guide the process.
January also resolved a lingering tension. SEO is not a priority right now; visibility is the more direct path to revenue at this stage.
7. The Carry-Forward
What I’m taking into next month.
A deeper implementation of agentic AI processes that reduce my cognitive load and allow me to execute without relying on my memory or constant initiation.
Treating my to-do list as both a productivity tool and a capacity signal, using it intentionally to support focus, momentum, and regulation.
A continued prioritization of visibility through live, relational channels and building in public, which only reinforces the ongoing execution of the broader plan already in motion.
January did what it needed to do. My direction is clearer, the plan is tighter, and the work now has fewer points of friction. As a friend said, “You have a plan, just follow the plan.”
That is it for January 2026. If you read this and have a question or there’s something you’d like to see tracked in future editions, just reply and let me know! Looking forward to sharing more monthly editions with you.
Until next month,
Chanaye
