Remember, Reader, looking at a business month by month makes patterns harder to ignore and easier to correct, especially under real constraints.
This is a brief review of what mattered, what shifted, and what stayed steady for me this month, based on decisions already in motion, the signals they reinforced, and the adjustments it required.
Let's talk about August.
1. The Overall
What kind of month this was at a strategic level in one sentence.
August was a month split between conference decisions and business movement — testing sales muscle in a supposedly dead month while locking in the conference speaker lineup.
2. The Reality
What actually moved and what didn’t in the business.
- Ran a promo for the Business Strategy Alignment Assessment (BSAA) in August, a month most people treat as dead for launches.
- Finalized every main speaker slot for the Build Business Better Conference. Only smaller daily panel slots remain open.
- Completed speaker and affiliate asset backend work.
- Prepped roughly 800 affiliate and promoter outreach emails scheduled for September.
- Stopped Seen On Purpose podcast ads to redirect budget toward conference ads.
- Delivered one speaking engagement.
- Held close to 60 calls this month, one-on-one and group combined.
- August net email list growth was the smallest of the quarter.
3. The Numbers
The metrics I paid attention to this month.
- BSAA promo clicks: 2
- BSAA promo purchases: 0
- August email subscribers: +27, unsubscribes: 21, net +6
- Calls per month, checked this month for the first time: around 60, one-on-one and group combined
4. The Removals
What was stopped.
Seen On Purpose private podcast ads.
The assumption that a launch has to sell something brand new to be worth running.
Paired down the goals for sponsorship for a first year conference. There are bigger, more important things to focus on.
5. The Additions
What I intentionally reinforced or introduced.
A full sales email, launch promo, and flash sale run start to finish.
List hygiene as a deliberate outcome of the BSAA promo.
6. The Adjustments
What this month clarified or confirmed for my business.
Two clicks and zero purchases still counted as a win. Writing the emails, scheduling the sends, and asking for people to purchase without flinching mattered more than what came back. That rep is done now.
Anyone who unsubscribed in August didn't want to be sold to, and I'm about to spend September and beyond doing exactly that. The list that's left already knows what it signed up for.
Realigned my conference goals to my energy and capacity. It needs happy speakers, happy attendees, and a strong group program launch on the other side of it. That's the actual goal, and August existed to clear the deck for it.
7. The Carry-Forward
What I’m taking into next month.
September opens with the conference push to the email list and socials, plus around 800 affiliate and attendee outreach emails.
Remaining conference roundtable panel slots get filled.
And if you want to jump on getting your ticket for the Build Business Better Conference when it opens, join the waitlist!
That's August. If something in this landed for you, hit reply.
Until next month,
Chanaye
